Stopped by here recently and the donuts are still delicious and the Vietnamese coffee is still legit. They even take card payments now!
Biggest change over the years is there's never any parking anymore cause all the trendy Instagram kids park here (even though they're not supposed to) and go across the street to Communal Coffee. -

3.5/5
Short line around 11:00AM on a Saturday.
Pros:
-Super light and fluffy yeast donuts
-Inexpensive
-Parking
Cons:
-Cake donuts on the dry side
--
Staff recommendation: plain glazed or maple glazed
$2.30 for 2 donuts
Plain Glazed
Plain glazed yeast donut. Best plain glazed donut I've had so far in LA/SD. My only critique is that it was a little too heavy on glaze, but it was SUPER soft (basically falling apart in my hands) and not too heavy.
Iced Chocolate Cake
Chocolate cake donut with chocolate icing. The icing was good but the cake was on the dry side. I'd stick with the yeast donuts. -

I stopped by on #nationaldoughnutday around 4pm.. but they were all sold out of donuts. They still had some muffins & banana bread. One of the employees told me they had sold out twice
I love the Vietnamese coffee!
Shop is clean & workers are friendly! -

I really don't get it! Everything about this place rubbed me the wrong way! Before walking in, I was trying to look for the store hours. There's a small sign at ankle height that reads, "Open when I get here." Uh, when the hell is that?!" I couldn't tell if it was the owner's humor or he was trying to be a jerk. Lol. Either way, I had a donut itch that needed to be scratched.
Walking in, I time warped to 1995 with laminated wood countertops and hand written signs. This place needed an extreme makeover. I remember being really hot in there, I'm assuming they don't have fans or air conditioning. I was so hot, I didn't care which donut I picked, as long I was out of the hot store. I picked a maple bar with bacon on top. I got the last one. When I was about to pay, I was very surprised they took credit card. It just seemed like the place that wouldn't have that kind of advanced technology.
Looking at the rest of the shop, I saw a lot of eye sores like a coffee pot so close to the register that it could easily get contaminated and all of the coffee creamers slowly turning to cottage cheese due to lack of refrigeration. But, I said oh well and left the store with my donut. I left the store with an awful feeling that maybe this was not the place I wanted to eat a donut from.
As I was driving away, ready to write my 1 star review... I took a bite of my maple bar with bacon. HOLY GEEZ, that was the best donut of my life! In one bite, everything that bothered me about the donut shop all of a sudden was non existent. The donut literally made up for everything! It all made sense to me. All the money goes towards a good product instead of aesthetics and I can respect that! I don't know what they put in that donut, but in that moment of ecstasy, I was in an out of body experience watching my self glow in delight! My mouth is literally watering while writing this review! -
